upgrading dramas

written by Jen on Sunday, February 12, 2006No Comment

I tackled the fearsome task last night - upgrading my blogging software WordPress and let me tell you, it was a drama!

I had a big problem that I eventually traced to a plugin that I had. I won’t go into all the boring details but suffice to say that I had many frustrating hours of to-ing and fro-ing. I did and undid things and searched forums for answers and wrestled with permalinks and my .htaccess and oh! the list goes on. I finally sorted out the mess and now it is almost all back to the way it should be.

My only problem now is that when you click on a permalink - like www.jenleheny.com/archives/123, everything is there except the actual post! If you have any ideas, please let me know.

While I was in the thick of it last night, I really wondered why I had bothered but after a few hours break and some sleep I can see that there are some great improvements. You may not even notice as a reader as most of the changes are “under the hood” as they say, but at least this way I am up to date and able to take advantage of future plugins etc.

Check out WordPress here - it really is very good. Here is a picture showing how happy I will be if I get this last problem sorted out:
