new beginnings

written by Jen on Sunday, April 6, 20084 Comments

Regular readers will know that I have been looking for a part time job for the last few weeks.  Well, I did it - I got a job!  I found out last Thursday and I start the job a week from Monday.  It sounds like a really good fit for me - it is school hours only (though that may change over time, which is fine) and I will be working at a small company that designs and prints things like brochures, business cards and web sites for small to medium businesses.  I will be overseeing the print jobs in a mostly admin role, but there will be some typesetting and minor design work involved.  It sounds like a good fit for me all round, with possible scope for a sideways move down the track as the head of the web design side of the business has already joked that he wants to pinch me to work in his area!

So I have a week left of “freedom” and a week to say goodbye to people and places and the things that used to fill my days.  Not to mention a week to get organised and get ready for the world of work.   This week just before we did our shopping list, I made a weekly dinner plan so that we will always have the ingredients we need for any given dinner and when I get home from work I will only have to choose from a week’s worth of meals, rather than doing the “what will we have for dinner” drama.  What I mean is that we aren’t saying “Monday is ………..” and “Tuesday is ………..”  but instead we will just have a list of seven dinners for the week that I can choose from on the night.  I need to think about school lunches and choosing work clothes the night before, and lots of other ways to streamline - and save time and stress in the mornings.

I also have to make time during the week to have a sit down with some old friends that I won’t be seeing for a while - David and Kim, Dr Phil and Oprah!   haha  More seriously I have to say goodbye to a bunch of amazing and supportive women who have been my Tuesday morning friends for a few years now as part of Brindabella Women’s Group.  It will be very sad to say farewell but I know I will stay in touch with many of the friends I have made there.  Like I said to them, it will just take more effort now!  I see some Girl’s Nights in my future.   My last session is this week and I feel all emotional when I think of it.  I have gotten so much from my Tuesday group.  End of an era…  New beginnings…

I hope to get some more work-wear sewing done this week as it’s really starting to get chilly.  I made this cowl neck top yesterday and it went together really quickly and easily from some stash midweight jersey.   I love this charcoal grey colour.  I figure I can wear this with a skinny belt (as pictured below from the 80s, showing that fashion does indeed cycle around and around) for Autumn or a jacket for Winter and it will keep me warm.

I made this from a 50c KnitWit pattern that I picked up the other day.  Love these photos - remember the French Roll on the side with a loose sweep at the front?  How very 80s.
