On the weekend I finally finished a top that I first cut out about a week ago. It is McCalls 5469. It seemed to take forever to finish though.  I must say that even though my new job is only part-time, it is hard to fit all the things I want to do into my free time nowadays.  I am determined to find the time though, even if it is just here and there.  Yesterday I decided that I was finishing the green top and it shouldn’t have taken too long but in the end, it was a real pain in the neck!  The neckline that is.

After some frustration, I had to rip out the neck binding and start again.  The trick was to cut the neckline piece twice as wide as the pattern piece and a little shorter.  I wasn’t going to give up, even though it was a pain and even though the fabric only cost me $1.50 per metre.  I also chopped about 2 inches off the sides which made it a little more figure hugging. I think if I make it again I will shorten it a bit too.

After all that, I wanted to start on something that I knew would be pretty straightforward so I went back to good ol’ Simplicity 4076 and made the wrap top with a Pucci inspired print.

It was all smooth sewing and I even found the time to finish it this evening. I wore the green to work today - maybe it will be the Pink Pucci tomorrow!

Oh and by the way, my article for the Sew, Mama, Sew blog went up the other day.  It’s all about how to alter your favourite TNT (tried n true) pants pattern to keep up with the latest styles.  It’s easy to change your wide leg pattern to make a pair of skinny jeans, or make some gauchos from your favourite capris pattern.

hi, I too just made the McCalls 5469, version B. I made a size 16 since I have a 38 bust, it was waaay too big! I then made the 12-14, and widened the sleeves (I have big upper arms), in a muslin. it is suitable to wear! Maybe I will add some rick rack since it is plain white. I then made it in a paisley cotton. I am going to try it in a knit and widen the neck band like you did, thanks for the tip! Approximately how much did you shorten the neck band? Thanks, gingerB

I’m really loving the green top too. The color and style! *Oh* I really enjoyed your article on Sew Mama Sew. I’ve just delved into the world of pants making and I’ll be sure to use your tips when I find my TNT pants pattern!

Just found your blog. I was actually looking for the pillowcase dress. Thanks for the instructions! and I also found I am enjoying your blog very much. I like the two blouses you’ve just made, but I must say I really love that one you made from the Japanese book with the curtain fabric, genius! Love it.

I would love to get into sewing clothes, but I have such trouble finding patterns I like, and then when I start trying to sew jersey type fabrics it just ends up going completely wrong and out of shape for me.

You are definitely an inspiration! I shall keep on trying :)

No wonder you love to sew and sew so much look at your studio and the machines. I’m soooo envious. Your 2 tops look so good on you. I can’t wait to see how the new software works and how you use it. That would make your sewing so much easier, wow…having the exact measurements.

I’ve been looking for something JUST like that green top in the stores. It looks great and you look great in it! Good job. I am years away from attempting such sewing. :)

      Cheers,
