Feed me Seymour…

Hi! Are you a new or recent visitor to my blog? I hope you stick around and have a bit of a read. To make it easier to keep up to date with new content, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Of course, feedback is always appreciated and leaving a comment is a great way for me to come and check out your site.

I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner… I have just figured out what “feeds” are all about. Being a geeky girl from way back I did have a vague idea about it, but also being a very busy girl I didn’t see what the fuss what about so I didn’t bother to investigate too much.

Just in case you are a bit clueless too, here is some info for you from a helpful article appropriately titled What is RSS/XML/Atom/Syndication?
“A news reader is a program or a web site that automatically checks your list of [blog] bookmarks and lets you know what’s new on each site in your list [...snip...] and delivers the content that has been updated itself. You may choose to read the new content in the news reader, or you may choose to leave the reader and visit the site.”

Edited to add:
Here is another great explanation about Feeds and Syndication from the helpful folks at Six Apart. They sum it up very simply when they say “Many websites have links labeled “XML” or “RSS” or “Atom”. All of these are ways of saying that you can find out about updates to that site without having to browse to it yourself to check.” read more here

I can’t believe how much faster and easier it is to keep up with all the blogs that I regularly check - all the Crafty blogs in those two long lists over there on the right. I have set myself up with Bloglines.com and happily recommend it. Bloglines is a FREE online service that helps you subscribe to and manage lots of web information, such as news feeds, weblogs and audio. Bloglines tracks the information you’re interested in, retrieves new stuff as it happens, and organizes everything for you on your own personal web news page.

Very easy to use and add your list of sites for them to check on for you. Not only that but you can even get an icon in your system tray that tells you when people in your list have added a new entry to their blog!

Okay, I have done my good deed for the day now. I love enabling! :)

Gosh! The fun never ends! I have just realised that you can add feeds for different people’s Photostreams on Flickr too.
