digital drawing

Hi! Are you a new or recent visitor to my blog? I hope you stick around and have a bit of a read. To make it easier to keep up to date with new content, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Of course, feedback is always appreciated and leaving a comment is a great way for me to come and check out your site.

Before I begin, let me just say that this IS most definitely still a craft and sewing blog, just exploring other things too.

So, I have been working on my drawing, and I’m still learning the basics. I wish I had done art at school but hey, it’s never too late huh?

You might remember the drawing I did the other day of the Prime newsreader. I know it wasn’t great but for me and the level I’m at right now, it was good. One of my commenters didn’t agree: “No offense, but that picture is ghastly.” Gee, why don’t you tell me what you really think?!? I replied, reminding him that I was learning to draw!

Anyway, moving on… I took that same drawing today and redrew it digitally with my tablet and coloured it and shaded it.  I took the chance to fix up a few problem areas while I was at it so she looks a lot better, especially in the face.  Her arms, still a bit odd looking. Her hands - still working on that!

Digital is very forgiving - love that Ctrl-Z.

I think this is great. I am not brave enough to get into drawing, and certainly not to share anything I have done. You inspire great confidence in others, and I think you should be proud of you efforts! You are learning, and working on areas that are hard. Hands took Michelangelo years to perfect!! ;-)

PS wanna come to aussiejunk 2moro?

I think that there is still a lot to work on.
You need to apply some basic shadowing, give more shape to lips, hands and eyes, try to get some patern on it, which you lost converting it from the paper version.

I have you in my RSS so I’d keep an eye on the progress if you still want to work on that piece. :)

This drawing is far from ghastly. On the one hand, there are many rules with regard to art, on the other hand there are no rules. I love that it’s not perfect and that the hands are not in proportion. Perhaps the naive style is not the look you are going for, but there is much to be said for the naive style of art - many, many great things to be said for that style of art, in fact.
