Big School Boy!

Well we made it through! Jack LOVED his first day at Big School (Kindergarten) and had such a great time. When I first asked him to tell me what he did today he said “Just… y’know… learning ’bout fings.”

It has been said before, the kids cope much better than the parents. Mind you, none of the parents or kids I saw were having any big troubles. Lots of mums (like me) were standing around looking wistful and remarking on how BIG they all looked in their school uniforms. Have they really grown up so much over the 6 week holiday break from preschool?

Quite a few dads were there too - most (like Paul) were on toddler duty, trying to keep the little brother or sister out of mischief so that the mums could concentrate on catching every moment of The First Day of School on camera - some even had video cameras! I didn’t do that, but I did take some great shots of him at home before we left.

And no, I didn’t cry or even have a sniffle. Really, it was just like leaving him at Preschool. Well, a bit different. MUCH more of a big milestone, but I am okay. :)

Oh, and I am SUCH a good, crafty mum! My sister (a primary school teacher) told me that I simply must cover his books. If he didn’t have covered books then it might just make me look like I couldn’t be bothered. No, actually she didn’t really say that - well, not quite! Anyway Jack and I thought it would be fun so I appointed myself Art Director. We got some of his recent artwork and I commissioned some new pieces and then we glue-sticked and contact-papered them onto his school books and transformed them into an artistic masterpiece that any teacher would be happy to see!

Sam starts Year 8 tomorrow but I’m guessing I won’t be allowed to take any photos for the blog - it can’t hurt to ask though. I do so love it when they squirm! And just so that Emma isn’t left out… here she is in her finest Princess Fairy outfit. Classy!
