Big News!

in my business

I have BIG NEWS!  Next year I am going to go to Uni to get a Bachelor of Graphic Design degree.  I am SO excited!  It will be a big change, and of course we will have less money to throw around but I can’t wait to get started.  I finish my job up on the 18th December and I start my course early February.

new

After many months of weighing it all up, I have decided to gradually phase out my handmade business so that I can go back to my roots and turn Red Instead into a graphic/web design/photography business.  I have been working hard to get this set up and it’s ready to show you now!  I am so happy to say that I have finally finished a big redesign of my website so have a look:  www.redinstead.com.au

Here’s a look at what the new Red Instead is all about:

Logo and Identity

We can work with you to design a logo and style guide for all of your business needs. Together, we can decide on the fonts, colours and style that will give a consistent look and feel for your business, and apply that branding to everything you do. We can make sure that you get noticed.

» Go to Logo and Identity Portfolio

Print

We can design and print business cards, postcards, flyers and more, so that your customers know who you are and what you do.

» Go to Print Portfolio

Web

We can set up a website, blog, or shopping site for your business.

We can talk to you about social networking and what it could do for your business, demystify Facebook and Twitter. and help you decide if you really need them.

» Go to Web Portfolio

Photography

If you’re local (we’re in Canberra) we can take product photos for you to use in your online shop or in your marketing, and we can take formal or informal portraits for you too.

» Go to Product Photos Portfolio
» Go to Event Photos Portfolio

I still enjoy sewing and love to make things with my hands but I am tired of doing it as a business. I want to sew for myself and my kids, and I don’t want to make 20 bags in a row for the markets any more. I have done this for about 6 years and I’ve loved it and I’m happy with my decision. I did think long and hard, believe me. So I have moved the RED INSTEAD handmade website to a new place: www.redinstead.com.au/handmade so I hope you will update your links and bookmarks for me. There is a 20% off everything sale on at the moment, so if there’s something you have had your eye on, it may not be there for much longer.

WOW! That really is big news! I’m very happy for you. It’s a big change, but I think your timing in making this business change is a good one. I wish you the best of luck and will continue to follow you:D

That’s great news! I graduated from UC in 06 with the same degree, it’s a lot of fun =)

I kind of wish I could do it again now I’m a bit older (turned 21 the year I graduated) so I could appreciate it more. I don’t think I was really ready to learn all I could when I was 18 fresh out of college.

Good luck!

Good on you! Wishing you the best of luck. Will miss those handmade designs though.

If I ever need a design/logo makeover, I know who to call! May be very soon hehe

Thanks everyone! Can’t wait for next year to come!

Mikaela – I love your blog and other websites. It’s great to hear from someone who did the same degree. I’d love to hear more about it…

Thanks Jen, and anytime! If you have any specific questions just shoot me an email =) The course has changed a bit since I graduated, in structure and whatnot, but I think a lot of the subjects are still similar. You will be doing the course with some of my college graduates from Dickson!

Thanks Mikaela – funny you should say that… I recently found out that the Yr 12 son of a friend of mine (I’m not in touch with her much lately) is doing the same course as me next year! I think he goes to Dickson too – Jake. That’s Canbera for you – everyone knows everyone.

That’s amazing if it’s one of my students, what a small world! But you’re right, it *is* Canberra =)
