more making

Today I made another Hot Patterns tee - don’t I look so happy! Look at the tshirt not at my face, please. This was the best photo of the bunch - doesn’t that say something!

You really have to excuse the expression on my face there! Jack (6) was taking the photo and I must have been in the middle of stressing about the camera, or something. Anyway, this tee went together fast and easy and fits great so I am happy.

After I wrestled the camera back from Jack I thought I’d have a go at some of those arm-outstretched self-portraits and this one actually turned out pretty well. I recently changed my hair a bit and I’m quite liking it. I wasn’t sure at first, but now I’m liking the flick.

I also made another Christmas wreath - again from a cane thing I picked up at the op shop. I wound some silver star tinsel, red garland and attached some Santa tags and a cute Santa tree ornament. Voila, it’s Christmas.

We don’t usually do any decorating until the official date (in our house) of December 1st but I have enjoyed sneaking these in before time.

Time for a quick whinge: who else here in Australia saw Prime (Seven) promising a “Series Return” with lots of advertising for Grey’s Anatomy. Of course the 10pm timeslot should have been a giveaway, but I was so annoyed when I sat down to watch it and it was a repeat series rather than the new one.

Another one: tonight on Prime (Seven) again, we had the “Series Final” of Heroes but hey, it’s only up to Chapter Nine! There are 12 shows in the series! Really, do they think we won’t notice?

In good TV news, I recently got the Series 1, 2 and 3 of Project Runway on DVD from eBay and I am halfway through Series One and loving it! Not having Pay TV, I have never seen these. I love Jay and of course Austin. Don’t tell me who ends up winning, whatever you do!

nearly December…

It’s nearly December, which of course means it’s nearly Christmas. Today, in hopes of not leaving everything to the last minute I got something done for Christmas!

I picked up this large cane wreath at an op shop recently for a couple of bucks. I bought some tinsel, a garland, some battery operated lights, a bell and some Santa tags and got to work. I wound things around and around and wired the lights and battery pack to secure them around the back.

It was hard to take a good photo but I am very happy with how it turned out. Not bad for an hour’s work!

Last Sunday I had another good day at the Old Bus Depot Markets and I’ll be there again on Saturday 16 and Saturday/Sunday 22 and 23 December.

It’s been a while since I have put up any gorgeous children photos so here they are:

Jack is just about finished 1st grade and likes to tell us he’s not 6, he’s 6 and 3/4.

to market, to market

Whoops! Time is just flying by. It’s that time of year I guess.

Last Saturday I shared a market stall with a couple of friends - Ruth and Jess. We had a spot at the Gorman House Markets (here in Canberra) and we also sold a few things from our friend Rachel, who couldn’t make it on the day.

Since there were four of us represented, we had a lot of stuff and a double-wide stall plus a rack of clothing and one for bags.

I haven’t done a market since finishing with Old Bus Depot Markets about 2 years ago, and I have to say that Gorman were a whole lot more relaxed in their admin and organisation of stall holders, not to mention a lot cheaper to get a stall. It was also really great to be there with a few friends to chat to instead of being on your own.

We are going to do at least one more market at Gorman before Christmas - on Saturday 1st December. I am also going to try Bus Depot again and I’ve got a stall booked for this Sunday so if you’re in Canberra I’d love you to come and say hello. If all goes well, I will do a few more (Saturday) markets at Bus Depot before Christmas too.

gorman4

It was a little quiet at Gorman last Saturday but I know once December comes, people will start panicking about gift buying! That can only be good for all those of us making little lovelies.

These photos show our (combined) stall with kid’s clothing, hats, accessories, jewellery, cards, handbags, vintage wallpaper packs etc from me. Rachel had jewellery and beaded Christmas ornaments. Ruth had cross stitch, crochet, bags (refashioned from cargo pants) and Jess had button jewellery, vintage patterns and aprons and covered notebooks.

Hope to see you on Sunday at Bus Depot! Cross fingers for the right outcome at the election tomorrow too.

another day, another tee

Yep, I made another tshirt today. No, I’m not done yet. I still have a few patterns I want to try out and a lot of stash fabric to get through. Not to mention that I currently have a closet full of daggy old things that really need updating and of course, I can’t buy new. A great excuse for sewing up a storm, I think!

I used a grey knit with tiny black spots. The neckband is a plain black similar-weight knit. It was supposed to be interfaced with a stretch interfacing but I didn’t have any on hand, so I just used a lightweight fusible made for woven fabric and it worked out fine. I knew that there didn’t need to be any real stretch required due to the scoop neck.

This time I tried out something from Hot Patterns - the Weekender Sunshine Tops pattern. It went together very smoothly - next one I make, I think I will add the band (as in the sleeveless version) as the tee does swing out quite a bit.
