Art La La!

Hi! Are you a new or recent visitor to my blog? I hope you stick around and have a bit of a read. To make it easier to keep up to date with new content, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Of course, feedback is always appreciated and leaving a comment is a great way for me to come and check out your site.

I have been working on some arty things when I get some time. Still experimenting and playing - figuring things out. Here are a couple of works in progress:

Both of these I have been working on for quite a while now, doing a bit, stopping, looking at them for a day or so, doing a bit more. They are still not done, but I am enjoying the process.

Here is a shot from above of these and a few more that I am working on:

The only reason there are so many on the go at once is that I kept mixing up too much paint - so I would grab another canvas and slap some paint on. For me at least, this approach isn’t really working. You end up having so much happening that you can’t really think about one piece at a time. Not to mention that they all tend to have the same colours!

Maybe I should put most of them away and bring them out another day, when I have forgotten about them.  That way I could focus on just one (or two) and get them finished!
This is the other work table - getting a bit messy!  I just love STUFF, but where do I put it all?

Here are my latest entries in my artist journal:

The one above is from the 1st June and this one is from the 5th June:

I have been using up leftover paint by painting backgrounds in my art journal and I love the explosions of colour. Have you started your art journal yet?

How to make a fluffy picture - by Jack

How to make a fluffy picture - by Jack

You will need: some batting, scissors, sticky tape, paper and your creativity!

Recently I sewed up a bunch of mermaid tails and I put some batting in the ends to give it some shape - of course I had my little helper bothering me, asking questions and wanting to get in on the act. So I gave him some batting to play with and he came up with this:

How easy is that? Not to mention how cute is Jack’s instruction book?

slack blogger no more!

sewing_mermaidsLook! I have photographic evidence of sewing! Here I was in the middle of making 16 mermaids tails for dress-ups, commissioned by a friend.

This is the slinky rainbow fabric (with pink lining) and there were also some made up in sparkly purple. Sorry, I handed them over before taking a photo. Just imagine sparkly and you’ll be right.

In other news, I have been busy adjusting to my new schedule and lack of time due to starting a part-time job recently - sales in a busy bakery. I can tell you, I now know the names of many, many varieties of breads and rolls and I even get to use the bread slicing machine!

The job is so so busy (everyone buys bread, right?) which is great because I have had jobs before where you spend so much time being bored and stewing on how much you hate working there. This job is so busy that the time flies by, and the people are really nice and funny too. It’s working out well. I would still rather not be out working but the financial reality is that I have to right now, and I just have to accept that. Bummer, why can’t I win lotto or something? :)

I promised Jack I would put this pic on the internet for everyone to see. I don’t think he made it though - I’m guessing big brother Sam did pretty much all of the work. Still, Jack LOVES it and begged me to put it here, so here it is!

A couple of nights ago I had a bit of an Adventure - I had to drive myself to emergency in the middle of the night due to a suspected ovarian cyst which was extremely painful (it reminded me of contractions, so yes, PAINFUL!) and which subsequently burst. I know, it sounds gross, apparently the body just “absorbs” the gunk inside the cyst. Lovely huh? Anyway I took a couple of days off work and did a lot of sleeping and watching of taped shows on telly while snuggled up under a blanket.

I thought I had better go to my GP for follow up and while I was there I asked her to look at my left ankle as it had been hurting for many weeks. Turns out that it is probably an inflammation of my achilles tendon (achilles tendonitis) so I have been referred to a podiatrist.
