I can’t see your pictures!

Hi! Are you a new or recent visitor to my blog? I hope you stick around and have a bit of a read. To make it easier to keep up to date with new content, please subscribe to my RSS feed. Of course, feedback is always appreciated and leaving a comment is a great way for me to come and check out your site.

I have recently taken it upon myself to leave a comment letting my favourite crafty bloggers know if I can’t see their photos on Bloglines - see my previous post about feeds, syndication etc if you are not familiar with the awesome Bloglines.

I personally find it quite annoying to be reading a post in Bloglines and the author is obviously talking about a photo that I can’t see. If I am interested enough I will visit the blog directly but sometimes I just don’t bother and occasionally I get tired of it and cancel my subscription to their content, so maybe you are losing readers! That would be sad.

Miffy - on Jack's drawer

You know, it’s a bit like when you have some spinach stuck to your teeth and nobody tells you. Personally I’d much rather know about something like that so that I can fix it! So I decided to let people know via their comments field, hoping that I am not seen as a nuisance or a nag. :)

Often the person is quite surprised and goes off and sorts the problem out. My best advice? Subscribe to your own feed in a few of the more popular feed readers so that you know what your feed looks like when it comes out the other end.

edited to add: While I’m on the subject… another pet peeve is those blog feeds that only give me a snippet of content. I get the title and a sentence or two and then have to visit the blog itself to read the rest. It kind of defeats the purpose of a feedreader as far as I’m concerned. Again, maybe you don’t know this is happening. Maybe you like it like this? Either way, I’m reading your blog so making me visit the actual blog (from the feedreader) to finish reading a post doesn’t make much sense to me.

As always, I’m happy to hear your thoughts on this so leave me a comment if you like.

edited again to add:
Some people have been wondering why pictures in their own feed show up to them, yet I can’t see them. And why are truncated posts showing when it seems they have specified full posts, with pics. I am only new to feeds etc myself. When I get some more time I will research these sorts of issues and see what I can find, then write another post about it. If anyone else has this info, please share! :)

Jack and Emma’s bedrooms

Inspired by the Corners of my Home project, and wanting to capture and keep forever the beauty and gorgeousness of my children’s bedrooms, I present some photos of Jack and Emma’s bedrooms. Blue for Boys, Pink for Girls. I never thought I would have their rooms in such traditional colours but it just sorta happened. Oh, and I better be truthful and say that I took these pics after a mammoth cleanup and that their rooms are normally strewn with toys. I like their rooms lived in and comfortable but they do look great when tidy!

I hope you enjoy this peek into their rooms and the things that are special to them, and me. You can click on each photo to go to a larger version in Flickr - I have kept them small here cos there’s quite a few! I couldn’t narrow it down any more.

And before you all ask, no I didn’t make her quilt but isn’t it so gorgeous? I bought it just after she was born cos I totally fell in love with it! You can see a few more pics here at Flickr.

Happy Australia Day

It’s Australia Day today - also known as Invasion Day.

I will be working out at the Cotter Bush Picnic today where there will be performances by Indigenous performers, storytelling, interactive bush walks and displays, sporting games, free mini train rides & craft activities for all ages. There’ll be a huge Aussie barbecue as well as free concerts and entertainment from 10 until 3. It’s all at the Cotter Reserve, off Paddy’s River Road. I’m going to be helping out with the kid’s craft activities - there’s lots of fun stuff planned for kids so Kath and Jacqueline and any other Canberra readers, bring the kids out for the day and come and say hello!
